Oreo Dirt Cake

Flour is apparently hard to come by lately so if you have the craving for something sweet and baking a traditional cake isn’t an option might I suggest a “Dirt Cake”.

I told John I needed more dessert recipes for the blog and since he would need to eat most of it, I asked him what we would like me to make. He said, “how about that dirt cake”. I was a little stunned, out of all the desserts in the world you want a dirt cake. He said “Yes”. I’ll admit I may have “slightly” given him a hard time however it was well worth it in the end.

I forgot how tasty crushed up Oreos with melted butter, cream cheese, whip cream and vanilla pudding taste. Lets just say the cake didn’t last long, we may or may not have had two pieces in one day and I see another dirt cake in the near future.

Dirt Cake Recipe

Ingredients

1 package Oreos (family size)
5 tablespoons melted butter
1 (3.4-oz) box instant vanilla pudding
1.5 cups cold milk
8-oz. cream cheese, softened
1/2 cup powdered sugar
1 cup heavy cream

Instructions

1. Finely crush Oreos in a food processor.
2. Add all but 1 cup to a large bowl. Add melted butter to bowl and stir until mixture starts to hold together. Pour mixture into 9”-x-9” baking dish and pack into an even layer.
3. In a medium bowl, whisk together pudding mix and milk until thickened, then refrigerate for 10 minutes to firm up.
4. In a large bowl using a hand mixer, beat cream cheese and powdered sugar together until lumps disappear.
5. In another large bowl, beat cream until stiff peaks form.
6. Fold pudding into cream cheese mixture, then fold in whipped cream until just combined.
7. Pour mixture over Oreo crust and smooth with an offset spatula.
8. Top with reserved crushed Oreos.
9. Refrigerate until well chilled, at least 3 hours or overnight.
