All I wanted for Christmas was a new butcher block cutting board. I had to retire my old one and since it’s something I use every day in the kitchen I was anxious to find a replacement. John actually stumbled across The Boardsmith and it just so happens they are located here in Frisco, TX.
After looking at their website and photos I knew I found my next board, and I was also happy to support local. The process took a couple weeks and there are several ways to customize the board to make it fit your needs. I decided on the maple 16×22 size and it fits perfect on my island.
They ship all over the world, in fact more of their business is international and since they are down the street I asked if I could pick it up and see the operation.
I met the owner, John and he was a very friendly and immediately asked if I wanted a tour, of their new facility. He spent the next 30 minutes walking me around the shop to explain the entire process.
They ship their lumber in from Pennsylvania and use Maple, Cherry and Walnut. Most if not all of their equipment is from Europe and while parts of the process heavily rely on machinery, creating the perfect board is a very manual and detailed process.
They just launched utensils on their site and he was gracious to give me a set to try. I am beyond grateful for finding John and his team as I know I have a forever piece in my kitchen.
My next step is to get my knives sharpened 😉 If you are in need of a fantastic custom cutting board please be sure to check out The Boardsmith. They will exceed your expectations.
