It was Absolute Bananas

John and I have been avid fans of the Savannah Bananas for the past year and a half. It’s incredible how outrageously funny and entertaining this team is. Trying to snag a ticket for their home games is like finding a needle in a haystack. This year, they’ve upped their game by going on a national tour, hitting 26 different minor league stadiums. And to make things even more exciting, they offered a lottery system for purchasing tickets. With fingers crossed, we hit the jackpot and won the lottery! I was glued to my computer screen at 10am sharp, and snagged VIB (Very Important Banana) tickets for the Oklahoma City game.

Weekend in OKC

Since it was Memorial Day weekend, we thought it would be perfect to turn it into a long weekend getaway. We managed to find an amazing Airbnb right in the heart of town, close to all the attractions we wanted to visit. After settling in, we couldn’t resist trying out the Saucee Sicilian for lunch. Little did we know, they were actually featured on Diners, Drive-ins, and Dives. We decided to split a margarita pizza, and let me tell you, it was a game-changer. The flavors were absolutely incredible, and it’s hard to believe that such simple ingredients could create such a flavorful pizza. I think it’s safe to say that it was the best margarita pizza I’ve ever had.

Savannah Banana Game

The game was scheduled to start at 7pm, but since we had VIB access with an hour early entry, we decided to arrive at 4:30pm. To our surprise, there was already a massive crowd of people eagerly waiting in line. It seemed like everyone was determined to secure the best seats since it was open seating. Jesse Cole, the owner, personally greeted us and welcomed all the VIBs into the park. We had the opportunity to meet the players and enjoy the calm atmosphere before the excitement kicked in. Once we found seats between home and third base, it was a perfect spot. As soon as 5:30pm hit, it was like a stampede. People were rushing and pushing to snag a front-row seat. I couldn’t believe my eyes.

During the next two hours, we laughed, sang, and cheered our hearts out for the Bananas. It was an unforgettable experience, and we had the absolute best time ever. The atmosphere created by this team is truly remarkable and something special. I feel incredibly fortunate to have witnessed and been a part of it.

A Day to Explore OKC

For breakfast, we decided to try out Kitchen 324, which came highly recommended. Located in the heart of the city, it exceeded our expectations with its delicious offerings. We couldn’t resist ordering the salmon benedict and biscuits with sausage gravy.

In the afternoon, we made our way to the OKC Memorial Museum. It was a solemn yet important experience as we walked through the exhibits, reflecting on the tragic events that took place almost 30 years ago. The museum did an incredible job of presenting the forgotten facts and details surrounding the incident. It left me speechless, and it was a stark reminder of the devastating loss and impact it had on the community.

Another highly recommended place we tried was Stella, and it did not disappoint. We enjoyed Italian wedding soup, Short Rib Ragout and Chicken Scallopini. To cap off the night, we headed to Perets Dessert and Coffee Bar, which had a hidden speakeasy vibe on the second floor of a warehouse. It was a unique find. Thank you Rebecca! We couldn’t resist ordering their famous Affogatos. Made with locally sourced Oklahoma ice cream, topped with homemade delights, and paired with a shot of espresso, they tasted just as incredible as they sound.
